Ghana StartUp Cup is a business model competition NOT a business plan competition

Entrepreneurs who compete in the Ghana StartUp Cup are rewarded for turning their idea into a viable business model, going to market quickly, testing assumptions, and modifying their business model as they learn what drives customers and revenue. Entrepreneurs of the StartUp Cup do not have to be experts at creating polished documents or accounting wizards. Instead what they lack in experience, they make up for in passion and dedication to achieve their dream. For some facts about StartUp Cup.

Brace yourself for some highly result-driven startups as real life business competitors go head-to-head in a determined bid to be crowned Best Ghanaian Startup. They are not competing for a cash prize – they’re fighting for something far more valuable: their professional reputation.

The business owners come from all walks of life, and include hairdressers, dance teachers, florists, photographers and children’s entertainers. They all work within Ghana, and they all believe they’ve got what it takes to win.

During the course of the six months programme, the entrepreneurs will be given the chance to size-up and score the competition, gain access to each others’ workplace, and sample the goods and services of their competitors, prove their financial status and open up to expert mentorship.

As if scrutiny from the Judging Panel wasn’t enough, each business will be visited by a secret industry expert who will test every aspect of customer service and business operation as stated in entrepreneur’s application. How will the entrepreneurs react when the expert reveals their true identity and delivers their professional critique?

As the final winner is revealed, the other contestants will be forced to swallow their pride, shake the victor by the hand and admit, “we agree, you are Best Startup in Ghana.”
